DeSantis Announces New Proposal That Would Provide Permanent Protections Against ‘the COVID-19 Biomedical Security State’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday announced a “common sense” legislative proposal that he said would provide permanent protections to Floridians against “the COVID-19 biomedical security state.”

The governor said the action would make permanent policies that protected Floridians from losing their jobs due to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, and protected parental rights. The policies were due to expire in July of 2023. The proposal also institutes additional protections that prevent discrimination based on COVID-19 vaccine status, and safeguards medical professionals from discrimination based on their personal religious views.

“When the world lost its mind, Florida was a refuge of sanity, serving strongly as freedom’s linchpin,” Governor Ron DeSantis at a news conference in Panama City. “These measures will ensure Florida remains this way and will provide landmark protections for free speech for medical practitioners.”

DeSantis was joined by U.S. Rep. Dr. Neal Dunn (R-Fla.), Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, and Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo.

As governor of “the free state of Florida,” DeSantis led the way in pushing back against biomedical security state to protect Florida jobs and parents’ rights to make health care decisions for their kids. He signed legislation in 2021 to ban private employer vaccine mandates and mask mandates across the state, and continues to ensure no one is discriminated against based on their COVID-19 vaccine status or is subject to a two-tiered test and mask discrimination policy from employers.

“You should never be discriminated against based on your mRNA status ,” DeSantis said. “I just think it’s a civil right to be able to breathe the fresh air.”

The governor noted that taking these actions required his administration to take a stand “against major institutions in our society, the bureaucracy, the medical establishment, legacy media, and even the president of the United States, who together were working to impose a biomedical security state on society.”

By “the COVID-19 biomedical security state,” DeSantis means the unelected technocrats who used the pandemic to impose previously unimaginable social controls—like mask and vaccine mandates—on the entire population.

“The sought to marginalize people who declined COVID jabs by using things like vaccine passports,” DeSantis continued.

They sought to prevent people from being able to earn a living if they declined the jab though the Biden Employer Mandate. They sought to deny children an education if their parents did not want their kids to get mRNA shots. They sought to discriminate against Americans based on vax status by treating them different in their own workplaces. They sought to impose mask-wearing requirements on everyone from spectators watching sporting events to young schoolchildren. And they sought to silence medical practitioners who followed the evidence and backed the science over the narrative.

DeSantis pointed out why it was so important to push back against these government edicts.  “They had a lot of momentum, they brought a lot of power to these fights, and they would have won—except for the fact Florida said NO,” the governor declared amid cheers.

The proposal includes the permanent prohibition of the following mandates:

Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine passports in Florida;
Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirements in all Florida schools;
Permanently prohibiting COVID-19 masking requirements at businesses; and
Permanently prohibiting employers from hiring or firing based on mRNA jabs.

In contrast to a new law in California, the proposal guarantees the First Amendment rights of medical professionals, ensuring no one loses their job or medical license for voicing their professional opinions in Florida.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation on Sept. 30, 2021 that allows the state medical board to “discipline physicians and surgeons who spread coronavirus misinformation” (offer medical opinions that depart from the official government narrative) during direct patient care. Doctors in the Golden State who commit “unprofessional conduct” by disseminating “misinformation or disinformation” about COVID-19 may be suspended or have their California medical license revoked.

“If a very high quality physician is driven out of California, this is gonna be the first place people are gonna want to go,” DeSantis said. “Just remember, these things don’t happen We are gonna make sure that our state remains the freest state in these United States.”

“As a health sciences researcher and physician, I have personally witnessed accomplished scientists receive threats due to their unorthodox positions,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo. “However, many of these positions have proven to be correct, as we’ve all seen over the past few years. All medical professionals should be encouraged to engage in scientific discourse without fearing for their livelihoods or their careers.”

Ladapo argued that the “crazy ideas” are actually coming from the officials in the biomedical security state.

DeSantis blasted the few enclaves left in America that still impose vaccine mandates on people. “Almost every study has said with these new boosters, you’re more likely to get infected with the Bivalent booster,” he pointed out. “So for what possible reason could you force that? We’re one of the few countries in the entire world that imposes [vaccine mandates] anymore. I don’t even think China imposes that anymore!” He exclaimed. “Even today, Biden and his lawyers at the Biden Department of Justice were in federal court in Miami trying to get reimposed the mask mandate for airline passengers which a district judge had struck down last year. Even after all of this, they still want to put you back in masks when you fly on a commercial airline, DeSantis added.

In an attempt to curb the spread of XBB.1.5, the latest COVID strain, The World Health Organization (WHO) is now urging people to return to mask wearing if they are in crowded places, enclosed places, or places where there is poor ventilation. The WHO has also called on countries to consider recommending that passengers wear masks on flights too, despite a multitude of studies that show they did little to slow the spread of the virus. The highly transmissible XBB.1.5 variant is expected to sweep across Europe in the coming weeks.
