Trump Threatens Lawsuit Over CNN’s ‘Defamatory Statements’ About 2020

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that he is considering suing CNN over the network’s “defamatory statements” regarding his efforts to expose widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

According to the New York Post, Trump released the statement through his Save America PAC, saying that he has “notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me.”

“I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election,” the popular former president added. “I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!”

The official notice, dated July 21st, is 282 pages long. The file details the network’s numerous “false statements” about Trump and his election integrity efforts in “numerous articles and televised transmissions.” James Trusty, an attorney for Trump, estimated that the cable news network has made at least 7,700 “defamatory comments” about Trump, and demanded that the network “publish a full and fair correction, apology, or retraction” in all relevant articles within 10 days of the notice.

“Failure to publish such a correction, apology, or retraction will result in the filing of a lawsuit and damages being sought against you, CNN,” said Trusty. “President Trump harbors a subjective belief that he was unfairly deprived of a second term in office. This is particularly valid in the context of an incumbent president receiving over 74 million votes, a record number for any Republican candidate in history.”

Despite widespread and credible evidence of systematic voter fraud in many of the key battleground states in the 2020 election, CNN and other mainstream media outlets have repeatedly and falsely claimed that there is no evidence of voter fraud. CNN in particular often referred to Trump’s voter fraud claims as “the Big Lie.”

“By refusing to acknowledge President Trump could be correct or that he could genuinely believe his contention is correct, CNN has willfully acted in disregard for the truth and has acted with reckless disregard for the truth,” Trusty continued in his statement. “CNN’s relentless and willful campaign to brand President Trump a ‘liar’ and purveyor of the ‘Big Lie’ is defamatory in nature.”
