Rep. Nehls Disputes Capitol Police’s Claim that His Office Door Was Left Open: It ‘Automatically Closes’

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) on Thursday produced evidence on Twitter that calls into question USCP Chief J. Thomas Manger’s claim that a Capitol Police officer entered the congressman’s office last November to investigate because the door was “left wide open.”

Nehls posted a video that suggests the Capitol Police are lying because the door always automatically closes when left open.

“This is the exact door @CapitolPolice claims their officer found “wide open” on that Saturday. The door automatically closes. See for yourself,” Nehls tweeted. “How could this door be found wide open?”

Manger on Tuesday put out a statement in support of “the vigilant officer” who had investigated the congressman’s office.

“The weekend before Thanksgiving, one of our vigilant officers spotted the Congressman’s door was wide open. That Monday, USCP personnel personally followed up with the Congressman’s staff and determined no investigation or further action of any kind was needed. No case investigation was ever initiated or conducted into the Representative or his staff,” he said.

While in his office, the officer took a picture of Nehls’ whiteboard which contained writings about his legislative priorities.

In his report, the officer said the whiteboard that contained “suspicious writings mentioning body armor. In November of 2021, Nehls was looking into faulty Chinese body armor after reading a story about the issue in the Washington Post.

Two days after the intrusion, according to Nehls, three intelligence officers attempted to enter his office while the House was in recess for Thanksgiving.

“Upon discovering a member of my staff, special agents dressed like construction workers began to question him as to the contents of a photograph taken illegally two days earlier,” he wrote on Twitter.

During a radio interview on Thursday, Nehls said he believes he was targeted on the orders of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.).

Earlier this week, the inspector general for the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) opened a formal investigation into allegations that the law enforcement agency has been improperly spying on Republican members of Congress, their staff, and visitors to their offices.

Additionally, over 30 House Republicans sent a letter to Pelosi and House Administration Committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Ca.), calling on the leaders of the Democratic-run House to launch an investigation.

Pelosi on Wednesday said that she has nothing to do with U.S. Capitol Police investigations into Republican members of Congress, claiming that her authority over the House does not extend to the Capitol Police.

“I have no power over the Capitol Police. Does anybody not know that? The Capitol Police have responded to that gentleman’s allegation, and that stands as what it is, but I have no power over them,” she insisted.

Nehl’s called that “horse manure” on the Chris Salcedo Show Thursday.

“She absolutely lied yesterday when she said on national tv that she has no power over the Capitol Police,” he said.

The congressman told Salcedo that the reason Pelosi sicced the Capitol Police on him is because he has been “very vocal, and very critical of the leadership of intelligence section that could have prevented January 6.”

Nehls said that he has also been “very vocal” about the murder of Trump supporter Ashley Babbitt by a Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd.

“That shooting, at a minimum, should have gone to a grand jury,” he said.

Nehls pointed out that if a white officer had shot a Black Lives Matter activist, “we would still have cities burning in our country.”

The congressman went on to warn that the weaponization of federal agencies has become a threat to everyday Americans.

“Nancy Pelosi is using the Capitol Police and weaponizing it for her own intelligence section—her own investigative agency,” he said, adding that if they can weaponize these agencies to go after himself, Donald Trump, and Tucker Carlson, no one is safe.

“It’s coming to a neighborhood near you folks, and this is the danger of the far left,” Nehls declared.
