DeSantis Trolls Biden By Holding Signing Ceremony For Anti-Vaccine Mandate Bills in Brandon, Florida

In a thinly-veiled swipe at Joe Biden, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday chose Brandon, Florida to sign a package of anti-COVID-19 vaccine mandate bills into law. The phrase “Let’s go, Brandon” became a viral political slogan after an NBC reporter mistakenly used the phrase to describe a NASCAR crowd that was chanting “F— Joe Biden.”

When asked by a reporter after the signing if he was trying to troll Biden by holding the signing ceremony in Brandon, DeSantis replied, “well I think Brandon, Florida is a great American city,” prompting a roar of approval from the crowd of supporters, and chants of “let’s go Brandon!”

DeSantis earlier this month dubbed the Biden Regime the “Brandon administration” while speaking at an election integrity press conference in Palm Beach.

Joining the governor at the signing ceremony, was Attorney General Ashley Moody, Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson.

The legislation will prevent employers from requiring workers to be vaccinated in order to stay employed.  Exemptions employers will be required to allow include health or religious concerns; pregnancy or anticipated future pregnancy; and past recovery from COVID-19.

“We provide protections for people—no nurse, no firefighter, no police officer, no trucker, no ANYBODY should lose their job because of these COVID jabs,” DeSantis said. “We’re making sure people have a right to earn a living, people have a right to protections at their place of employment, and that parents have protections to be able to direct the upbringing of their kids,” he added.

The governor noted that the bills are the strongest legislation that have been enacted in the United States. Florida, in fact, is the first state to pass a law imposing fines on companies that require a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.

DeSantis prompted chants of “let’s go Brandon!” when he said he was proud to be in the Tampa-area town to sign the bills into law.

“We are respecting peoples’ individual freedom in this state,” DeSantis said.

Accompanying the governor at the signing event was Dr. Jeffrey Beard, MD an emergency medicine physician who recently lost his job due to being unvaccinated.

“Until this past Saturday, I was the director of one of the few pediatric ERs in the panhandle of Florida,” Beard said.  “Effective 7:00 a.m. last Saturday after 12 years of service in the same hospital, I was suspended from my job due to my inability to comply with their health system’s corporate mandate.

Beard said his religious exemption request was denied despite his sincerely held religious convictions.

“Like many others, I worked through the entire pandemic,” the doctor noted, adding that he has strong immunity after having recovered from COVID.

He went on to thank the governor, and the Republicans in the Florida legislature who crafted the legislation.

“I want to get back to the job that I love to do, ” he said.

The governor also singled out Fiona Lashells, an 8-year-old second grader from Palm Beach County who was suspended from school 38 times for defying the school’s cruel mask mandate.

After months of negative media exposure, and pressure from the DeSantis administration, the School District of Palm Beach County on Nov. 6 released a letter to the public announcing that  it had decided to drop their mandatory mask requirement.

DeSantis asked Fiona if the school was making her wear a mask anymore, and the little girl answered “no.”

“She got things done, I mean I tell you what,” DeSantis said proudly.

In answer to a reporter’s question during the Q&A, DeSantis explained why he felt that banning state and federal COVID mandates is the right thing to do.

“The states are the primary vehicles to protect peoples’ freedoms, their health, their safety, their welfare, and out constitutional system,” he said, adding, “What Biden is doing, is not constitutional—there has never been a federal vaccine mandate imposed on the general public.”

He continued: “Some people say these local governments wanted to lock down businesses, they wanted to force mandates, they wanted to keep the kids locked out of school, hey, you’re damn right I overruled them on that, because they were wrong! The fact of the matter is, you don’t have the right to do wrong.”

The governor added that the state would be in dire financial straits if he hadn’t stepped in last year and stopped liberal local governments from imposing draconian shut-downs and mandates on Florida residents..

“We had to stand up for peoples’ liberties, their livelihoods, their right to work, peoples’ right to own a business, and it was the right thing to do,” he said.

DeSantis pointed out that Biden and his press secretary Jen Psaki have both said in the past that they don’t have the right to impose mandates on the American people.

“The question is, do we actually have a constitution that constrains people like Biden, or is it, if loses patience, he can do whatever the hell he wants to? he asked. “No! I’ll take the Constitution, thank you very much!”
