At least two more Democrat members of the Texas state legislature who fled the state last week have tested positive for the coronavirus since flying to Washington D.C., as reported by the Daily Wire.
Over 50 Democrats from both chambers suddenly and illegally left the state last week as the legislature was about to vote on several election integrity bills. While the bills aim to crack down on voter fraud like the kind that occurred in the 2020 presidential election, Democrats falsely claimed that the bills would suppress minority voters; in order to try to block passage of the bills, they fled the state so that the legislature could not reach a sufficient quorum to hold the votes.
The Democrats subsequently posted multiple photos and videos of themselves fleeing on social media, first on a charter bus and then a private plane to fly them to D.C., with none of them wearing any masks. After meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House, three of the Democrats tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus, with one confirming their test on Friday and two more on Saturday.
Then, on Sunday, two more members of the delegation also tested positive, bringing the new total up to five. The group released a statement claiming that all of the infected were “feeling good, with no symptoms or only mild symptoms.”
Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) condemned the Democrats for dereliction of duty, and the Texas House voted to authorize the arrest of every single Democratic lawmaker as soon as they return to the state. Once they return, Abbott said, “they will be arrested and brought to the Texas Capitol, and we will be conducting business.”
Despite their efforts to block quorum, the Texas Senate still had enough lawmakers present to pass the voter integrity bill, while the effort is currently stalled in the House. Other bills on the legislature’s agenda include a bill protecting women’s sports from biological males who claim to be “transgender,” as well as bills cracking down on abortion, illegal immigration, and Critical Race Theory, among others.
