Is Kyle Rittenhouse the Next Nick Sandmann?

Undoubtedly you have heard of Kyle Rittenhouse and his troubles in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Do you remember Nick Sandmann?

CNN and the Washington Post certainly do.

In January 2020, CNN reached an undisclosed settlement with the former Covington Catholic High School student. Sandmann had sued the network for defamation after the network falsely portrayed his actions at a 2019 March For Life rally in Washington, D.C. His attorneys asked for $275 million.

The Post settled with Sandmann in July 2020 after he had sued that organization for $250 million.

Gannett, NBC, ABC, CBS, the New York Times, and Rolling Stone all wish they didn’t remember the kid from Kentucky. Sandmann’s lawsuits against those big media corporations are still pending.

What did Sandmann do, anyway, that earned him such calumny? He donned a red MAGA hat at a March For Life rally.

He would have been safer had he just thrown on a Dolly Parton wig, a Nordstrom bodycon dress, 3-inch Jimmy Choos, and lathered up with Revlon.

But he decided to go with the MAGA sombrero. Liberals have designated that hat as the universal sign of evil, hatred, white supremacy, and racism in America.

Sandmann, then a 17-year-old high school student, was the subject of a social media frenzy that falsely portrayed him as an instigator of hate surrounding a man named Nathan Phillips, at whom Sandmann was said to have “smirked.”

Phillips was in Washington, D.C. at the same time as Sandmann, attending something called the Indigenous Peoples March. After the full video surfaced suggesting Phillips was the instigator, the media once again played the court jester for the Democratic Party.

Sandmann’s inexcusable crime was supporting Donald Trump. You can throw in a secondary charge for the pro-life stance.

He is now a wealthy young man.

Enter Jacob Blake and Kyle Rittenhouse

Fast forward to Kenosha, Wisconsin on August 23, 2020. Jacob Blake was shot by law enforcement and left partially paralyzed. He physically fought the police and was armed with a knife. Many left-wing media pundits falsely insist Blake was “unarmed” and that the shooting was unjustified. This has been refuted by Blake himself.

As with the Sandmann case, the media failed to provide appropriate details and context to the situation. The coverage invariably left out the fact that the police had come to a residence after being called by a woman who had pressed sexual assault charges against Blake. He wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place.

But this story is about Kyle Rittenhouse.

Like Sandmann, the Antioch, Illinois resident became the center of another social media storm after being accused of fatally shooting two protesters and wounding a third. This was in the aftermath of the Blake incident.

Once the police shot a black man, the protesters came out in force, proclaiming injustice before learning any facts.

Rioting ensued in the streets of the small North American city. It was chaos cloaked in the guise of “mostly peaceful protest.”

Similar to what already had happened in Portland, Seattle, and Minneapolis, the sharks came to feast after smelling blood in the water.

Rittenhouse claims he was in Kenosha helping to protect businesses from being vandalized, burned, and looted. (He is seen here expressing that sentiment to the Daily Caller.)

Nobody disputes that Rittenhouse shot three people that night, killing two. At issue is whether those shootings were justifiable.

As it happens, however, the local district attorney immediately charged Rittenhouse with murder without so much as a formal investigation.

Isn’t that a prosecutorial faux pas? Not if you’re pandering to the thuggery of Black Lives Matter and Antifa.

The district attorney was a Pontius Pilate in need of a patsy to placate an angry mob.

The media needed and wanted a Nick Sandmann (minus the CNN and Washington Post settlements).

Rittenhouse made it easy on them. And like a shiny spinning lure passing in front of the hungry largemouth bass, the media swallowed it whole.

The Media Judge and Jury

The first charge was that Rittenhouse had taken a firearm across state lines. Rittenhouse’s legal team quickly squashed this, but it didn’t seem to deter the jury in the media.

Next, the media charged that Rittenhouse belonged to a “white supremacist” group. Heard that before?

Then Democratic presidential candidate and member of the D.C. Pinochle Club, Joe Biden, weighed in with his verdict on Rittenhouse, regurgitating the media mantra of “white supremacy.” He also attempted to link Rittenhouse to “extreme right-wing groups.”

Suffice to say, not a shred of credible evidence backs any of those claims.

Rittenhouse’s defense attorneys released an 11-minute video they say shows Rittenhouse acted in self-defense.

The video appears to show that both dead victims, Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, were chasing Rittenhouse. Rosenbaum is seen throwing an object at Rittenhouse while Huber can be seen hitting Rittenhouse over the head with a skateboard.

A third victim, Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, was then seen with a handgun pointed at Rittenhouse as he approached. Grosskreutz appears to put his hands in the air as though surrendering. As Rittenhouse lowered the barrel of his AR-15, Grosskreutz had a split-second opportunity to attack. Grosskreutz can been seen lunging toward Rittenhouse. But Grosskreutz wasn’t fast enough. Rittenhouse raised his rifle and squeezed off a round that struck Grosskreutz in his right bicep, disabling his gun hand.

The Kenosha district attorney has charged Rittenhouse with one count of first-degree homicide for this incident, meaning the state must prove the killing was premeditated. If convicted, Rittenhouse faces a mandatory life sentence.

As of this writing, Grosskreutz has not been charged with any crime.

The district attorney also alleges Rittenhouse traveled a long distance with an active “white supremacist” group to engage in criminal activity.

In fact, Rittenhouse lives about 20 minutes away, in Antioch, Illinois. Rittenhouse worked in Kenosha as a lifeguard. He also helped others remove graffiti from a high school in Kenosha earlier during the day of the incident.

The media have published and broadcast countless unproven and unverified claims about the now 18-year-old Rittenhouse. His legal team may already be drawing up defamation lawsuits similar to those filed by Nick Sandmann. Certainly, he would be well within his rights to sue if he is eventually acquitted of the homicide charges.

If he prevails, then just as sure as Kamala Harris will continue to avoid the southern U.S. border, Kyle Rittenhouse may end up a very wealthy adult. That would be justice well served.
