To the Parapets, Defenders of Free Speech!

To date, a number of observers have diagnosed and condemned the rancid ideology and insidious aims of the true threat to America: the radical Leftist American Communists or Am-coms

In his anti-socialist manifesto, Evan Sayet coined the term and dissected the totalitarian designs of The Woke Supremacy; Lisa De Pasquale satirically skewered the intrinsic insanity and hypocrisy of our self-anointed “moral superiors” in The Social Justice Warrior Handbook: A Practical Survival Guide for Snowflakes, Millennials, and Generation Z; and most recently, Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a leader of exceptional intellect and moral courage, condemned the intolerance behind the regressive policies and neo-racist practices of the often less-than-non-violent “woke folk.”

But it is not just observers from the center-Right decrying the Am-coms. Granted, this oppressive movement will be called many different things depending on who across the political spectrum is discussing it, but the recognition of its dangers remains. Some of the most poignant critiques have come from intellectually honest journalists who are not on the Right, such as Glenn Greenwald and Matt Taibbi. Both ably set forth the Am-coms’ goal of controlling the media and Big Tech to censor political opponents. Taibbi, for example, exposes the “troubling views” of Columbia law professor Timothy Wu, who feels the First Amendment is “obsolete.” In doing so, Greenwald and Taibbi provide the first step in identifying and defeating the Am-coms.

There is no surer way to identify an Am-com than by his lust for censorship.

Sure, as is their wont, the Am-coms will try to pass off censorship as something intended for your own good. The Am-coms argue they are trying to protect you from all the lies and disinformation lurking amid the “epidemic” of free speech brought on by the communications’ revolution. In short, the Am-coms want to separate the wheat (their views) from the chaff (their opponents’ views) because you might be too evil but certainly are too stupid to think for yourself. It is time for you to get over your stubbornness and submit to them.

As Greenwald observes of the Am-coms:

They believe they are the party of science and rationality and the only way to disagree with them is you are either a deranged conspiracy theorist or exhibitionist, someone who is engaged in criminal conduct or terrorism…I really can’t overstate how bloodthirsty they are in the control they are trying to exert over our discourse.

The Am-coms’ hatred of free speech is not simply a byproduct of their aversion to criticism and opposition; or of any safeguards of minority rights that stand in the way of their coveted tyranny of the majority (a majority which, ironically, they know they lack, hence their lust for censorship). For as Taibbi warns, “if you give someone formal or informal power to choke off lies, they themselves may now lie with impunity.”

Ergo, the Am-coms want it both ways: they don’t have to listen to you; and you have to listen—and obey—them. Their elitism and arrogance are as breathtaking as they are erroneous and dangerous. (As we’ve noted at American Greatness, “the Democratic Party isn’t.”)

And you thought you lived in a free, constitutional republic, wherein your servant government, supposedly the guarantor of your God-given rights, requires the consent of the sovereign citizenry to act? Oh, wait. We do.

This is precisely why the Am-coms want to “fundamentally transform” America. Of course, a censor never believes they will be censored…until they are. And yet, it has already begun; though the Am-coms are too self-obsessed to be self-aware.

Note how the Am-coms have self-censored themselves from uttering words such as “republic,” “pluralism,” “liberty,” and increasingly “equality.” Consider, too, that your tax and consumer dollars are being used in mandatory Communist race theory struggle sessions to compel your submission to the DIE cult’s “diversity,” “inclusion,” and “equity”—all terms that have been politically eviscerated of their traditional meanings. But such is a Pyrrhic victory. Creating ever more “offenses” within their echo chamber for which to cancel their opponents, the censorious Am-coms are actually writing the scripts for their own struggle sessions, self-denunciations, and cancellations.

Thus, to the parapets, defenders of free speech! The preeminent, critical battle is to protect and promote the sacrosanct First Amendment’s recognition of the God-given right to free speech. We need to advance measures to prohibit employers from firing workers for exercising their free speech rights; and provide legal redress for these employees, if illegally terminated or otherwise harassed. We need to end mandatory Communist race theory in both public and private sectors, and legislatively affirm an individual’s freedom of conscience from religious and secular indoctrination.

All these and more measures to protect and promote free speech will thwart the Am-coms’ censorious designs and stanch their cancerous cancel culture. Anyone—be they in the public or private sector—who aims to chill, curtail, infringe, or end free speech has outed themselves as an aspiring tyrant and must be stopped.

But they must not be silenced. Because, unlike the Am-coms, we are not hypocrites or would-be despots. We are the defenders of free speech who would die to protect our opponents’ God-given right to be heard.
