In November, President Trump earned a record-setting 74,216,154 votes. But as plainly exhibited by extensive and resounding down-ticket victories, the enthusiasm was not just for old 45 himself. It was also for the robust and realigned conservative agenda—one focused on prioritizing the national interest and American families—that he helped to forge and advance.
Alas, rather than now defend and fight for that agenda, Republican Senators, who we elected—and, in some cases, reelected—are scampering away, and hoping we won’t notice their cowardice. Yet we do notice. In particular, they’re rolling over for Biden’s cabinet nominees, many of whom are beyond palatable for even progressive tastes, as clearly demonstrated in original research conducted by the American Accountability Foundation.
Dave Catanese of McClatchyDC notes that seven Republican Senators have voted to confirm 80 percent or more of Biden’s cabinet picks. That’s astounding.
Let these Senators be named: Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Mitt Romney (R-Utha), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and, lo and behold, the Senate Minority Leader himself, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Can you imagine what conservatives might have accomplished over the last four years if 80 percent of the Trump Administration’s initiatives had been backed by Congressional Republicans?
Fortunately, conservatives are not without a powerful Congressional tool that’s ready to be deployed. Albeit with a razor-thin majority in the upper chamber, Senators could still use the advice and consent function to force Biden to instead nominate quality citizens whose views and principles will actually resonate with most Americans.
Make no mistake, there are plenty of reasons to reject some of the people Biden has chosen to lead the executive branch agencies and departments whose regulations and policies impact our daily lives. Here are just a few examples.
Kristen Clarke—Pro Cop-killer and Bigot
In January, Kristen Clarke, Biden’s nominee to lead the Department of Justice’s coveted Civil Rights Division, came under fire because of her involvement with anti-Semitic and racially-charged statements while an undergraduate at Harvard. Her callous response in the Left-leaning Jewish publication, Forward, which went uncriticized by the swamp’s media echo chamber, was: it “was a mistake…it’s not something I would do again.”
But it wasn’t a mistake, because Clarke has continued violating American civic norms as, for example, when she defended cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. And then again, when she supported Abu-Jamal at her first job with the radical NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
Clarke’s career of anti-police rhetoric and racially-charged statements is emblematic not of someone who learns from mistakes and improves, but rather of a person preoccupied with spreading radical ideology.
Dave Turk—Globalist and Jobs Exporter
An August 2020 Pew Research Poll listed “strengthening the economy” as one of the top concerns for voters going into the 2020 election. For Republican voters, it was the top issue. The ability to support loved ones is a daily concern for American families. It’s incredibly troubling then to read, for example, that Ford is reneging on its deal to provide jobs and economic opportunity for Ohio families.
What’s Biden’s response to fight for millions of American families? He nominates a job-killing, climate-hack globalist, Dave Turk, to be our nation’s second-highest official at the Department of Energy.
Turk spent the last four years working overseas for an international organization that prioritizes the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement’s “clean energy” initiatives. This is the agreement that, Wayne Christian notes, will “cost American workers 6.5 million jobs and $3 trillion in economic growth by 2040.” And that assessment is based on a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which, despite its name, hasn’t even been friendly to the American working class for a long time.
Turk cares more about currying the favor of globalist organizations than supporting American families.
Chiquita Brooks-Lasure—Illegal Immigration and Abortion Activist
It’s no wonder illegal aliens are surging across the border when Biden nominates Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Brooks-LaSure spent her career working to expand government healthcare to illegal aliens. She even recommended extending government healthcare to pregnant women who are in this country illegally, incentivizing them to give birth to anchor babies in the United States.
Based on her previous employment with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, one can presume that another of Brooke-LaSure’s healthcare goals is to encourage foreign nationals to risk life and limb, during the most severe pandemic in modern history no less, to cross the border to access taxpayer-funded abortions.
Americans choose fellow citizens to represent their interests in the halls of power. That is a basic facet of our democracy, but, unfortunately, and to the severe detriment of our constitutional republic, too many of our elected officials have either forgotten or simply don’t care about it.
We see what’s happening in the Senate, and we’ll make our discontent known, far and wide. Still, it’s high time for Senate Republicans to follow through on their collective promise to fight for their constituents, American families, who insist upon a conservative policy agenda.
