Canadian Man Arrested for Referring to His Daughter as a Girl

In Canada, a man was arrested on Tuesday after publicly referring to his teenager daughter as a girl, after a court had previously issued a gag order forbidding him from talking about his daughter to the press, as reported by the New York Post.

The man’s identity is being withheld from publication as part of the court’s broader gag order so that his daughter’s identity will not be revealed. He had sued his ex-wife, the mother of his daughter, after finding out that she was forcing their daughter to undergo gender transition processes, since the child allegedly identifies as “transgender.” The British Columbia Court of Appeals ultimately ruled in favor of the mother, ordering the father to not interfere in the child’s gender transition, which includes hormone therapy and seeing a psychiatrist who will assist in the transition.

The daughter, who is now 15 years old, allegedly first “identified” as male at the age of 11, and asked for her name to be changed to a boy’s name at the age of 12. When the lawsuit was settled in January, the court repeatedly and incorrectly referred to the child as a boy and scolded the father, saying that his “refusal to respect the boy’s decisions regarding his gender identity is troublesome,” and claiming that the father’s efforts to reaffirm his daughter’s true gender identity was causing the daughter “significant pain.” The court also claimed that the father’s efforts to defend himself and criticize the forced gender reassignment constituted a form of “family violence.”

The father started an online fundraising campaign with Go Get Funding to pay his legal fees, and used the outlet to confirm that “the far left issued an arrest warrant on Tuesday, March 04,” and that he would be turning himself in on March 16th. The fundraiser has currently generated about $22,000 in support of him.

He further described his actions as “civil disobedience,” and confirmed that the upcoming criminal trial, scheduled for mid-April, “could land me in jail for up to five years for speaking truth about state-sponsored child abuse.”
