Not content with the rigging and manipulation of the 2020 election, or the “fortifying” of it as some leftists have described it, the Democrats are prepared to codify, and are aggressively pushing to codify, the corruption we saw play out in 2020 through H.R. 1.
Now, mind you, this is House Resolution 1 because the very first bill that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered in the new session was this attempt at election rigging. Just so we’re absolutely clear: her biggest priority in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis is not helping Americans or small businesses, but making sure to codify corruption. She even gave it the Orwellian title of the “For the People Act.” What it should be titled is “How to Effect One-Party Rule in America.”
To put it mildly, it is a mind-blowing, brazen attempt by Pelosi and the Democrats to annihilate free and fair elections and place the Republican Party in permanent minority status. Republican attorneys recently echoed the fears of many when they said that, “It is difficult to imagine a legislative proposal more threatening to election integrity and voter confidence [than H.R. 1].”
That perfectly sums up what this bill entails. Photo IDs? Gone. Clean voter rolls? Don’t be ridiculous. Why would any good-hearted person want to take away people’s suffrage just because they happen to be dead?
Election Day? Nope, let’s make it Election Weeks, permanently. To be fair, those lefties need time to manipulate the vote totals to get the right results, and Election Day is such a tight timeframe to pull that off. Ballot harvesting? Let’s legalize that practice in all 50 states because what on earth could possibly go wrong besides voter intimidation and manipulation?
Universal mail-in ballots curated from dirty voter data rolls? Ballots for everyone! Because unlike the French, who banned universal mail-in ballots 45 years ago due to fraud and dead people voting, we’re “more better” and fraud could never, ever happen here.
In fact to suggest photo IDs, clean voter rolls, and enforcement of absentee ballot laws is what big meanie pants racists do; boo to big meanie pants racists! But yes, kids, Democrats are fighting clean voter rolls because it is “voter suppression.” Never mind the fact that dirty data leads to dirty elections. Instead we must focus on the noble goal: we can never have progress if we allow such a messy thing as representative democracy to take place. Those dirty peasants might make the wrong choices and that will never, ever do. So we must “fortify” and put in guardrails so that the right results happen as we pretend to have free elections.
With H.R. 1, Democrats would put us outside the norm of most countries in the world. Most countries don’t allow non-citizens to vote in their elections, don’t use electronic voting machines, and don’t have universal mail-in ballots. In fact, 85 percent of European Union nations either require that if someone is in the country for Election Day they must vote in person or, if they are voting by mail, provide a valid photo ID to do it. All of the above things are what mature, advanced civilizations do when they don’t want to become Third World banana republics.
In all seriousness, we do have to acknowledge the fact that the Left used COVID-19 as the rationale to accomplish in 2020 a lot of what they’ve always wanted to do: destroy the American people’s right to self-governance. This is not a mystery. They proposed a lot of the same disastrous measures in the 2019 version of H.R. 1, but experienced little success without the public health scare. But they saw the opportunity in 2020 to use the pandemic as an excuse, made the play, and in reality, for all intents and purposes, enacted H.R. 1 outside of the legislative process.
So now they want to codify it, add a degree of respectability, a veneer of legality to it all. If H.R. 1 were to pass, despite the minor detail of annihilating self-governance by American citizens, it would usher in even more administrative state overreach, judicial imitation, 10-day delays in vote tallies, gerrymandered districts that favor the Left, a growing electorate that will include illegal aliens, felons, and high school kids (that’s right: 16 year olds would get to vote if H.R. 1 becomes law) just to name a few proposed changes. It would make a complete farce of “free and fair elections” and no other self-respecting country would ever propose such a thing, let alone push to make it the “new normal.”
But this is what the crazed and demented Democrats want. And the ultimate goal? The ultimate goal is the “Californication” of the entire country, which would lead to one-party rule and the loss of constitutional republicanism as we know it. The un-American Left, which has subsumed the Democratic Party, is making a massive power grab with H.R. 1. The question is, are enough Americans going to wake up and say enough is enough?
