More Than 30 Philly Cops Injured in BLM Riot After Police Shoot Black Man Armed With Knife

More than 30 police officers were injured in West Philadelphia overnight amid violent rioting after police shot a black man wielding a knife who refused to disarm. A 56-year old female sergeant reportedly suffered a broken leg after she was struck by a pickup truck driven by protestors. Violent rioters attacked officers with rocks, bricks and other projectiles as mobs looted stores, smashed ATMs and torched police cars.

Video captured on the scene shows Walter Wallace Jr, 27, belligerently advancing toward the Philadelphia police officers Monday afternoon amid calls to “put the knife down.”

Two officers opened fire after he ignored their calls to drop his weapon and continued to advance toward them.

Black Grievance ambulance chaser Benjamin Crump tweeted: “Philadelphia cops fatally shot Walter Wallace Jr. today firing 10+ times at him while he stood at least 10 ft away. He allegedly had a knife but cops made NO attempts at de-escalating the situation in this video. They went Straight to killing Wallace in front of his loved ones!”

Philadelphia Police Sergeant Sgt. Eric Gripp told reporters that officers encountered the knife-wielding Wallace after being called to the block. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he “advanced towards the officers.”

“Officers ordered him several times to drop the weapon,” said Gripp. “He did not do so.”

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement that a full investigation is underway.

“I have directed the Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Unit to begin its investigation. I recognize that the video of the incident raises many questions. Residents have my assurance that those questions will be fully addressed by the investigation. While at the scene this evening, I heard and felt the anger of the community. Everyone involved will forever be impacted. I will be leaning on what the investigation gleans to answer the many unanswered questions that exist. I also plan to join the Mayor in meeting with members of the community and members of Mr. Wallace’s family to hear their concerns as soon as it can be scheduled.”

The incident quickly aroused protests in neighborhood, which soon devolved into a violent riot that lasted deep into the night.

Demonstrators reportedly gathered at Malcolm X Park and then marched to the police station at 55th and Pine Streets for an hours-long standoff.

At one point, Philly police were forced to retreat from the mob of violent rioters, who continued throwing projectiles at them.

While the police were occupied with the violent mob, looters broke into stores and made off with thousands of dollars of merchandise.
