The Media’s Smear Job Campaigning for Joe Biden

As the national political media have conducted practically the entire Democratic presidential election campaign, the credibility of the media is entirely implicated in the election result. In the latest revelations about the financial activities of the Biden family while presidential candidate Joe Biden was the vice president, the national political media and the principal social media companies have sandbagged another large media company, News Corporation’s New York Post, and have tried to impose online silence on the White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

The media either had to suppress the story to maintain support for their candidate and continue to make his campaign for him, or give normal attention to such a well-attested story and probably sink his candidacy—effectively their joint candidacy. If they had chosen the second course of action and treated Biden as they would have treated Trump or any previous presidential candidate mired in such allegations, the Biden candidacy almost certainly would be doomed. In going full metal jacket to ignore the story and to maintain Biden in their candidate protection program, the major media and the executives behind them are putting the credibility and ultimately the value of their franchises on the line.

If Biden is elected, his premeditated lie that he had never discussed his son’s business dealings in Ukraine or other foreign countries will be evident and undeniable, but not significant. There will be no further legal proceedings and while a couple of Senate committees may continue to poke the question, even that will stop if the Democrats emerge from the election with the majority of the Senate. Similarly, the Durham special counsel investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russian collusion allegations, which has been inexcusably prolonged, will also undoubtedly be swept under the carpet no matter what Durham’s findings are. Even though it is now clear that the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, knew when she was circulating the Steele dossier that its chief source was a Russian government agent, these facts appear not to matter.

Similarly, while there is a bipartisan consensus about some aspects of the unhealthy influence social media has on public opinion formation in the United States, if Biden wins, the post-electoral examination of the role of social media will be comparatively gentle. That is the least the Democrats could do for these immensely influential executives who have carried water on both shoulders for their unfeasible candidate.

But if Trump wins, the Biden financial activities will be investigated. It appears to be uncontested public knowledge that the Biden family received from various foreign sources $9.84 million in the time that Joe Biden was vice president; he seems to have monetized the second-highest public office in the United States. The Bidens deserve the benefit of the doubt in criminal questions, but they could not possibly be serene about the likely outcome of a serious examination of this apparently rather sordid financial history. John Durham presumably will get to the bottom of the origins of the shameful Trump Russian collusion fraud. There is little doubt that somebody committed serious offenses in launching and sustaining the complete fiction of the Trump-Russian collusion story. And the social media barons, with a Trump victory, will be in for a rough sleigh ride.

The extreme uniform and vociferous bias of almost all of the national media is not only remarkable in itself, especially as compounded by the social media attempts to stifle opposing viewpoints, even from the White House. The virulence of that electoral partisanship is also extraordinary. There were widespread suggestions in 1964 that the Republican candidate, Senator Barry M. Goldwater, in upholding the concept of states’ rights, was effectively endorsing indefinite racial segregation, and that by his provocative and bellicose attitude to the communist powers, he was a menace to world peace. I have my doubts if he would’ve been a successful president but he was hideously caricatured and vilified.

In the current circumstances, the only grievance leveled against President Trump apart from mindless, disenthralled Trump-hate and the incitement of the view that he is somehow morally inadequate to his office, are generally unjust complaints about his COVID management. The Biden campaign is just nasty name-calling. In the first debate, Biden called him “a clown, a liar, and a racist.” In the 2016 campaign, President Obama claimed that Trump was a supporter of the Ku Klux Klan.

Veteran CBS correspondent Leslie Stahl, in the interview that the Trump campaign released to the public unedited almost a week earlier, claimed there was no evidence the Trump campaign had been spied upon by its enemies in 2016 even though that fact has been verified by the inspector general of the Justice Department. Jon Meacham, the man who plowed Newsweek magazine into the ground and has made himself the house historian of the Bush family, declared after the second debate that Trump was illustrative of “the privileged white lizard mentality” of many Americans. This is not the reflection of a respectable historian. Of course, criticism, even harsh criticism of this president is fair comment. But there is no excuse for the hateful and barbarous vilification of him as a person that is now almost the whole campaign against and media coverage of him.

Unfortunately, The Atlantic’s summary of this president last week, consistent with the integrity of its coverage throughout the Trump era, is only slightly more rabidly irrational than the national media generally on this subject. It comes from Jeffrey Goldberg, the source of the infamous falsehood that Trump referred to American war dead as “losers and suckers.” He wrote last week:

Donald Trump is the worst president this country has seen since Andrew Johnson or perhaps James Buchanan, or perhaps ever. Trump has brought our country low; has divided our people; he has pitted race against race; he has corrupted our democracy; he has shown contempt for American ideals; he has made cruelty a sacrament; has provided comfort to propagators of hate; he has abandoned America’s allies; he has aligned himself with dictators; he has encouraged terrorism and mob violence; he has undermined the agencies and departments of government; he has despoiled the environment; he has opposed free speech; he has lied frenetically and evangelized for conspiracists; he has stolen children from their parents; he has made himself an advocate of a hostile foreign power; and he has failed to protect America from a ravaging virus . . . Through his avarice and ignorance and negligence and titanic incompetence, he has allowed tens of thousands of Americans to suffer and die, many alone, all needlessly. With each passing day his presidency reaps more death.

In fact, the worst American presidents since James Buchanan were George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Donald Trump has had the best first term of any president in American history except Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Richard Nixon. If Donald Trump is reelected (as he deserves to be), Joe Biden will return to an evidently comfortable retirement. But the media responsible for resurrecting Biden and Kamala Harris from the pre-convention ash heap and trying to elect them with the most egregious smear job in the history of the democratic world will have to answer for what they have done to the vital craft of journalism.

  1. OMGosh! The aloof, out of touch cognoscenti of American Greatness concludes that the wholesale slaughter of “the vital craft of journalism” is what ails the American Republic.

    “Oh the pain!*

*Doctor Smith, Lost In Space, 1965.

    • This Nov. 3rd 2020 The Trump Administration will Be Re-Elected in a Near Historic Landslide and that’s as it should be. For the Demorats Humpty-dumpty will have a Great Fail and be disposed to the Dust Bin of History But before that happens 1,000’s of Heads will roll into the Hell of their own Making and a second 4-More Years will serve to usher in a New Golden Age for a very Tired America come bouncing on it’s Feet and attempt to become a Proud Constitutional Republic Once Again. As for Biden and Harris and AOC and all other Commie-Marxists…WE shall have again Thrown The BUms Out !!!

    • I suppose that one could say that, more than “the vital craft of journalism” ailing the American Republic, perhaps willfully ignorant, or mendacious stooges and toadies of corrupt politicians, such as yourself, are the real problem…

      • Stephen, I am but an armchair pontificator sitting atop my toilet throne. Nevertheless, I am well educated, formally in electrical engineering and biotechnology, and informally in the philosophies of Plato and Aristotle.

However, I am working diligently on being less mendacious. I suspect my priest confessor has grown sick and tired of my bleating.

    • Sadly, Mr. Black has given not even a hint at how the media will “have to answer” for their bias. Who will force that repentance? No one that I can think of. This MSM cabal is with us to stay. They are too deeply invested in their lies to ever admit wrongdoing to the American people. That leaves the rest of us with the need to find reliable alternatives to the MSM nonsense.

      • You noticed that too. Mr. Black is unquestionably a fine writer, but he’s just pipe dreaming here. Ig Biden wins it’s an unmitigated tragedy from just about any angle I can think of. I get sick to my stomach just admitting the possibility, which is now verging on a likelihood.

      • I suggest subscribing to The Epoch Times, both digital and print versions. The journalism is excellent — thorough and unbiased. The emergence of The Epoch Times has proven extremely threatening to The NY Times, which ran a virulent, slandering hit piece on October 25. The Epoch Times has already documented numerous inaccuracies in the piece.

      • Absolutely correct. “Answer” my ass. They MSM is accountable to NO ONE and they know. Can’t believe Black is so make everyone on this.

      • Well, Mr. Conman Black did not have to fully answer for his crimes, getting a pardon from crooked Trump.

  2. Goldberg’s description of the president is spot on, IF he changed the first two words from Donald Trump to Barack Obama.

  3. Dubya was merely a globalist failure. But hello? Jimmy Carter? Woodrow Wilson?

    • I think it’s that W was cowed by the recount and made absolutely no push back against the insane democrat narrative that spawned the bizzarro world presidency that Biden is trying to occupy now. My other beef is that I think that the Bush family charity was the presidency and thank God that Jeb was denied his seat at the Bush family charity board.

  4. Jeff Goldberg spouts off a secular left religious mantra of Trump failures. Many of these have been proven untrue and the rest are projection of the wrong doing of the left.

He has left the realm of reality and landed where people used to be led away in straight jackets.

    • Exactly. Goldberg’s screed reads like complete projection by the left. What was Russiagate but a conspiracy theory promoted by the left and its media cabal? What was the impeachment but a conspiracy theory?

Why did the FBI sit on the Hunter Biden laptop before and during impeachment? This is what I can’t understand and what nobody seems to be asking.

    • Goldberg is another leftist Jew who like so many Jews have an animus toward the values and sentiments of middle America. I am a Jew and live in New York and I support Trump because he cares about America particularly the importance of free speech, gun ownership, cracking down on Chinas economic dishonesty, repudiating grievance and identity politics, supporting our police, going after voter fraud, protecting religious freedom and taking on the reactionary leftist narrative of America that prevails in our schools, the media and Hollywood. The left is morally and intellectually bankrupt.

  5. Amazing how the left projects so much. Just the other day, while campaigning for Joe Biden in Philly, Barack Hussein Obama said to his rally of nine people, “If Donald Trump won’t answer the tough questions, he doesn’t deserve a second term”.

The irony of his statement is confounding.

  6. It is perfectly legal for the son of Presidents to solicit jobs from other countries, just as it is for anyone else. Of course these other people would not have access to the VP, and that is the currency which they desire. Since Congress (Joe) wrote the laws, it would not be surprising if none of them were broken. If Hunter pays the taxes and decides to help the old man out with a house or few, what is the problem?

All of this is obviously not a problem because it has been happening out in the open. See the Bill and Hill foundation. We just choose to be led by grifters. What else do you call someone who doesn’t do anything for a living other than telling you what you want to hear?

    • NO. They claim they didn’t commit bribery because no one can prove an official act of the government was changed from the corrupt payments. That is provably false with Ukraine. Biden accept a bribe because he ordered the prosecutor of a corrupt company be fired which was directly against US policy of cleaning up corruption in the Ukraine. In his dealings with China, he sold out the US when the US policy should be one of enforcing the rules on China and looking out for US interests. He committed Treason there, but harder to prove the corrupt intent vs the typical hate America Democrat.

Biden also enabled the false prosecution of GOV Flynn which is also a crime.

      • The firing of that prosecutor WAS official US policy. Victor Shokin was infamously corrupt himself, and was seen by both the US and Europe as the primary obstacle to cleaning up corruption in Ukraine. Claiming that it was somehow “against US policy” for the vice president to deliver the president’s ultimatum to a foreign govt is simply preposterous.

Also, who is this “GOV Flynn”? Michael Flynn was never a governor. And there was no FALSE prosecution of him.

  7. If the President is re-elected it is PROOF of the Founders brilliance in inventing America.
Why? it will show that THE PEOPLE believe in America and why it was founded. WE THE PEOPLE will have chosen to support what America is about.
The President will have overcome the greatest onslaught of anti-Americanism TOTALLY pushed by the Media and money.
The Media has used its near monopoly to push a Socialist/Communist agenda using their talking heads and bombarding us with ads produced with huge sums of money by America hating billionaires.
It WILL prove that America is still the land of the free.

  8. That comment about Jon Meacham was particularly satisfying and I appreciate that Mr Black took the trouble to unearth it since Meacham has descended into an insignificant semi-retirement.

  9. George Lucas would have titled this episode, “The Swamp Strikes Back.”

In 2016, the American people imposed a hard right-angle turn on their political future – electing a President from Queens. They did it because, being “Deplorables,™” they knew what was happening to their precious country at the hands of people (Joe Biden personifies all of them …) who were merely using their positions to enrich themselves without regard either to the nation they were supposed to be governing, or its people. Other nations, friend and foe alike, figured this out and arranged to profit very handsomely thereby.

“The Swamp” immediately put its full efforts into regaining its Swamphood “by any means necessary.” In this election, they simply assume that the American people will return them to power – yet they show such contempt for “The Deplorables™” that they won’t even compete. The US Government is an organized crime ring that is accountable to no one, “and this is simply the way that it must be.” The 2016 election was a mistake, so let’s all just get back to The New Normal … ????

    “What FOOLS these Democrats be!”

  10. And to whom, pray tell, would the media have to answer for their truly abysmal lack of standards, petulance, collusion with a campaign and stifling of legitimate news? We’ve known how rotten the MSM is for at least 20 years. Perhaps we’ve forgotten how they treated Republicans during the Bush administrations–even lamenting that there were TOO FEW American deaths in the Iraq war, since they couldn’t use them to gin up hatred for the president’s administration.

Or perhaps we’ve forgotten the infamous Journ-O-list, a circle (circlefest?) of prominent newspeople coordinating a 8-year-long panegyric on the man-child and totem for all things Left Barak Hussein Obama.

The only thing different now is that they couldn’t make a difference in 2016, so they went even more hysterical. And still, they answer to nobody, save for their ratings which (depending on who you believe) are trending down. As for tech giants, I’ve lost all faith in Senate hearings and I don’t see how even a second Trump administration will help me regain it. The worst political scandal in our Republic’s history has as yet to produce a single indictment–what makes anyone think that even Section 230 will be revisited? Big Tech, much like Big Finance, owns at least 75% of our politicians.

    • I’m guessing that the tech giants will be broken up and their influence scattered to the winds. As for the mainstream media (i.e., newspapers, the alphabet networks, etc), they will be punished by the American people as their ratings crater and they lose money by the bucket fulls. Cable will remain cable, but I see networks like XiNN going out of business because their models no longer pull in the ratings/advertiser revenues.

  11. Just follow the money. The corporate media see China as their growth market and their future.

    • Yes, follow the money from Russia, Ukraine, Saudia Arabia, Yemen, China, et al. to the Trump Crime family.

  12. Mr Black cites Jeffrey Goldberg’s piece in the Atlantic as an example of the irrational bias and Trump hatred of today’s media. Irrational and delusional, since only by substituting “Obama” for “Trump” does the article have any credibility. Never before in this country’s history has projection been more vividly on display. It seems that today’s media, like the NFL, are actively participating in their own self destruction. History will judge the leaders of these and other such “woke” institutions harshly.

  13. You’re not catching the full nastiness of the “lizard brain” trope. Its a reference to the brain of certain dinosaurs which were so small, they needed an additional nerve center (lizard hind brain) to govern its hindquarters. So, basically the smallest brain there is.

This trope may have started on the right wing as a jocular reference to the male libido and how it can lead you astray (following your lizard hind brain)

  14. I remember when these comment boards by now would have 150-200 postings now ONLY 13 I guess since *AG decided to destroy their comment boards NO one hardly visits here much any longer????

  15. The death-knell of Joe Biden’s political career sounded when President Trump looked at Joe and said, “I ran because of you, Joe. If you and Obama had done a good job I would not have come down that escalator. I ran because of YOU and people like you, Joe: all talk and no action.” Biden tried to smile but the smile failed and ol’ Joe just looked down at his shoes. Biden and the Democrats are toast, burnt toast.

  16. “But the media……will have to answer for what they have done to the vital craft of journalism. ” Says who? No they do not, and no they will not. “The vital craft of journalism” died. It died when Ted Kennedy drowned a woman and got off with it, and continued on to be a Presidential candidate.

  17. So apparently Conman Black is retreating from his usual cheerleading for a massive Trump victory to the position that if Trump is defeated it’s the evil media’s fault. He sees the writing on the wall, but he won’t admit it. Farewell, Donald. Farewell, Conman.
