The two documentaries,“American Factory” and “Becoming” from former President Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company were nominated for 7 Emmys, The Hill reported.
The nominees were announced this Tuesday, July 28th.
“American Factory,” which follows the story of a factory in Ohio after it’s reopened by a Chinese billionaire, was nominated for three categories: outstanding picture editing for a nonfiction program, outstanding cinematography for a nonfiction program and outstanding directing for a documentary/nonfiction program.
“Becoming,” which hit Netflix months back and captured the former first lady’s experiences during her book tour promoting her autobiography under the same name, scored four nominations: outstanding directing for a documentary/nonfiction program, outstanding documentary or nonfiction special, outstanding cinematography for a nonfiction program and outstanding music composition for a documentary series Or special.
“The Emmy nominations come after American Factory was awarded the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards in February. At the time, the former president celebrated the filmmakers for “telling such a complex, moving story,” while Michelle tweeted that she was “so glad to see their heart and honesty recognized,” Entertainment Today reported.
“American Factory,” also landed an Oscar for best documentary feature in February.
Netflix received 160 Emmy nominations overall.
