Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) pushed back against the “liberal media” and its coverage of the coronavirus, pointing out that most media outlets were ignoring the obvious fact that the recent mass protests undoubtedly caused a spike in cases, as reported by The Hill.
In a statement on Twitter, Reeves decried the media’s efforts to claim that “the increase of Coronavirus was just caused by family BBQ’s on Memorial Day,” even though “our uptick (and other states) began within days of massive protests all over – which they celebrated.”
The media has come under heavy fire in recent weeks for its hypocritical coverage of two different kinds of protests during the coronavirus pandemic, being critical of anti-lockdown protests and conservative gatherings such as rallies for President Trump, while at the same time excusing and even explicitly endorsing Black Lives Matter protests and Antifa riots. Videos and photographs from many of these mass gatherings show hardly anyone wearing masks, and no one practicing “social distancing.”
The most egregious example of hypocrisy was an open letter signed by over 1,200 alleged “health care professionals” who declared that left-wing protests were acceptable and unlikely to spread the virus, and in the same paragraph declared that anti-lockdown protests were dangerous and should not be allowed.
