The World Health Organization has revised its guidelines for wearing masks yet again, now recommending that healthy people do not need to wear masks unless they are tending to confirmed coronavirus patients, according to Fox News.
The announcement was made by the WHO’s Dr. April Baller, who said that “if you do not have any respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, or runny nose, you do not need to wear a mask. Masks should only be used by healthcare workers, caretakers, or people who are sick with symptoms of fever and cough.”
The revision comes after previous recommendations by the CDC and other organizations suggested that everyone should wear facial masks, regardless of whether or not they were sick, which led to face masks becoming a symbol of the coronavirus outbreak. The disease has begun to subside in most countries, including the United States, with hospitalizations, deaths, and total numbers of cases declining even as most regions begin lifting restrictions and reopening their economies.
