Although Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination, many Sanders surrogates and spokespeople are refusing to support the presumptive Democratic nominee, as reported by Fox.
Sanders’ national press secretary, Briahna Gray, released a scathing statement on Twitter saying that “with the utmost respect for Bernie Sanders…I don’t endorse Joe Biden. I supported Bernie Sanders because he backed ideas like #MedicareForAll, cancelling ALL student debt, and a wealth tax. Biden supports none of these.”
Gray also tweeted about the recent sexual assault allegation against Biden by former Senate staffer Tara Reade, who credibly claims that he assaulted her in 1993. Addressing the New York Times’ recent failed attempt to debunk Reade’s claims, Gray said that she wasn’t sure how “that line from the NYT’s long-delayed coverage of Tara Reade’s accusation can sit alongside reporting that 7 other women have accused Biden of sexual misconduct.”
Shaun King, a prominent Sanders supporter who rose to notoriety by pretending to be African-American, similarly took his complaints to Twitter by saying that Sanders’ endorsement of Biden “is clearly reading from a teleprompter.”
The statements reflect the deep divide that still exists between the Democratic Party establishment and Sanders supporters, which began in 2016 after the Democratic National Committee actively rigged the primaries against Sanders and in favor of Hillary Clinton. The same divides remaining in 2020 threaten Biden’s chances in the general election against President Donald Trump.
