Actor Billy Porter, who has been cast as the fairy godmother in upcoming Disney live-action remake of “Cinderella,” has said that the character will be “genderless” in his portrayal, according to The Daily Caller.
Porter, a man who has a history of cross-dressing in public appearances, claimed that his distortion of the role simply amounted to “a classic fairytale for a new generation.” He also gave his version of the character the nickname “Fab G,” and stated his belief that “magic has no gender.”
Porter has previously spoken about his career as a drag queen, claiming that “it made me feel the most grounded and powerful that I have ever felt in my life and I’m not going back.” He also says that he frequently cross-dresses in order to combat what he sees as a double-standard, saying that “when women wear pants that’s not a problem…if a man wears a dress, then that’s disgusting…I’m not doing that anymore, so I’m going to wear a dress when I want to.”
