New York Governor to Meet with Trump Over Statewide Trusted Traveler Ban

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump today to discuss the Trump Administration’s ban on enrollment in “Trusted Traveler Programs” for New York state residents, as Fox News reports.

As reported last week, the Department of Homeland Security initiated the ban after New York’s passage of its “sanctuary state” law protecting illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities. The move, announced by Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf, was meant to reduce the risk of illegal aliens possibly enrolling in the program due to their protected status in New York state.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, a far-left Democrat, announced a lawsuit against DHS as a result of the ban, claiming without evidence that it was “political retribution.”

Cuomo is meeting with Trump to discuss a political compromise, with his office confirming that the proposed deal would see the ban lifted. In return, the DHS would be given access to New York’s DMV databases for information on any and all illegals in the state, allowing them to perform background checks on any such illegals before they are given trusted traveler status.
