At a campaign rally in Iowa, former Vice President Joe Biden declared that he considers illegal aliens who came to the U.S. under the DACA program to be “more American than most Americans,” as the Daily Caller reports.
Biden’s reasoning for this statement was the unsubstantiated claim that DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients get better grades in school than most American students. He also claimed, without evidence, that “they believe the basic principles that we all share,” and reiterated his stance that they should be given amnesty and citizenship.
This is the latest instance of Biden shifting further to the far-left on immigration. He previously said that he does not want to deport any illegal aliens who have not committed a felony, adding that he would work as president to have drunk driving no longer considered a felony.
DACA was one of former President Barack Obama’s major amnesty initiatives, implemented through an executive order after it failed to pass through Congress. It was rescinded by the Trump Administration.
