Morning Greatness: Iran Protests Not Going as Planned for U.S. Anti-Trump Forces

Good Monday morning.

Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:

  • The president has lunch with the Vice President
  • President Trump receives his intelligence briefing
  • President Trump and the First Lady attend the College Football Playoff National Championship, New Orleans, LA

Iran protests not going as planned for U.S. anti-Trump forces

Welp, looks like there are some protests in Iran and they aren’t anti-Trump protests. Womp, womp.

Iranians are angry at their regime for shooting down a Ukrainian airplane that killed everyone on board including many Iranians. How inconvenient for the media and the Democrats that this narrative is not developing in the way they would prefer. You won’t be seeing or hearing too much about these protests in the way you heard about the people who were forced to turn out for Soleimani’s funeral.

Iranian riot police used tear gas to disperse thousands of protesters in Tehran’s Azadi Square Sunday, as public fury escalates over Iran’s accidental shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane, killing all 176 people on board.

Protests that began as vigils to mourn those who died in the crash quickly turned into mass anti-government demonstrations, with calls for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to step down and for those responsible for downing the plane to be prosecuted.

“Death to the dictator,” some chanted in the capital, Tehran, in footage posted on social media. In one video, demonstrators chanted, “Khamenei have shame. Leave the country.”

Oh dear, the Iranians were supposed to turn against Trump for killing their beloved national hero, the bloody General Solemaini.

Protests have spread to other cities, including Shiraz, Esfahan, Hamedan and Orumiyeh, Reuters reported, exposing widespread discontent with the regime.

The angry crowds are a marked difference from the image of a unified country in mourning seen following the death of top commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in Baghdad, Iraq last week.

And it gets worse for America’s anti-Trump forces:

Videos and reports emerged Sunday showing the crowds deliberately walking around the edges of the massive flags painted on the pavement of a university in Tehran.

Those who did walk across the Stars and Stripes and the Star of David were immediately pointed at and booed, with the crowd chanting “shame on you.”

Many of the protesters shouted, “Our enemy is Iran, not America.”

Meanwhile, President Trump warned the Iranians not to kill their people.

I can’t wait to see how this develops. What if the protestors overthrow the government? How will the Democrats spin that against Trump?

Pelosi peacock struts on ABC about Democrats’ Impeachment Follies

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is trying to turn her failed strategy of clutching the Democrats’ impeachment articles like Gollum clutched his precious ring by barking about her “victory.”

“This president is impeached for life regardless of any gamesmanship on the part of Mitch McConnell,” she said during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, adding, “There is nothing the Senate can do to ever erase that.” Actually, they can acquit him so there kind of is something the Senate could do.

Pelosi is also claiming that unless the Senate does what she wants, they are part of a “cover up.” But why didn’t the House call the witnesses if they were so important? Because it was so URGENT to impeach Trump and they didn’t want to wait for the legal system to address conflicts but not URGENT enough to send the articles over to the Senate immediately. This whole affair is so nakedly partisan I can barely address it.

But privately, Democrats are saying Nancy’s plan is a failure. “Yeah, definitely,” said Rachel Bade, a WaPo reporter on ABC’s political snuff Sunday show. “She was clearly putting a positive spin on what a lot of Democrats have privately said was a failed strategy.”

“So I do the think there are a lot of Democrats who, while not going on the record and saying it, a lot of them had concern about this.”

Left-wing activist to oversee FISA Court

You cannot make this stuff up. If you had any doubt that the FISA court has been abused by the institutional state in order to attack their political enemies and must be protected at all costs, let this disabuse you of your doubts.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) has stunned court-watchers by selecting David Kris — a former Obama administration lawyer who has appeared on “The Rachel Maddow Show” and written extensively in support of the FBI’s surveillance practices on the left-wing blog Lawfare — to oversee the FBI’s implementation of reforms in the wake of a damning Department of Justice inspector general report last year.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee called the move “shocking” and “inexplicable.”

“It’s hard to imagine a worse person the FISC could have chosen outside [James] Comey, [Andy] McCabe, or [Adam] Schiff,” Nunes said.

“Of all the people in the swamp … this is the guy that you come up with?” Nunes asked. “The guy that was accusing me of federal crimes? The guy that was defending the dirty cops at the FBI? … The court must be trying to abolish itself. There is long-term damage.”

Why hasn’t Adam Schiff released the transcripts of the IC IG’s testimony from the basement star chamber hearing?

The IC IG is bad news.

If you are keeping count, HPSCI Chairfreak Adam Schiff has released the testimony of every person from his star chamber hearing EXCEPT the intelligence community’s inspector general Michael Atkinson. Now why is that? Atkinson is the IG who determined the “whistleblower,” suspected to be Biden-staffer and CIA employee Eric Ciaramella, was of “urgent concern.” Atkinson sent letters to the HPSCI demanding attention to the complaint. If you recall, the “whistleblower” complaint did not contain any first hand knowledge about which to blow the whistle, so one has to wonder, why didn’t any of the people with first-hand knowledge step up to the plate? We all know the requirements to file a whistleblower complaint were surreptitiously amended to allow for hearsay evidence ex post facto but still, why even bother with that? Because the complaint needed to go to Atkinson, that’s why. Ciaramella, the purported whistleblower, is part of the intelligence community. He was detailed to the WH but the other characters in this shenanigan were not in the IC so their whistleblower complaint would go to another IG, perhaps an IG that is not so…shifty.

The Republicans on the HPSCI are investigating Atkinson’s handling of the complaint. Read my colleague Julie Kelly’s story about what a punk Atkinson is.
