Toymaker Mattel Releasing a ‘Nonpartisan’ Uno Deck with no Red or Blue Cards

The toymaking company Mattel has announced that it will be releasing a special, limited-edition version of the iconic card game Uno for the Christmas season, which will eliminate the traditional colors of blue and red, Fox News reports.

This version of the card game is labeled “Nonpartisan,” and includes the tagline, “No red or blue cards means no taking sides.” The move is in reference to the colors also representing America’s two major political parties, with red representing Republicans and blue representing Democrats. The colors have instead been replaced by orange and purple.

In addition to the change in colors, the new special edition deck will also include a “Veto” card which has a similar function to the “Skip” card.

Mattel says that the move will attempt to reduce political tensions within households and families across America, with their website saying “Whether you lean a little left or a little right, one thing we can all agree on is how much we love Uno!”
