Nikki Haley: Tillerson, Kelly tried to recruit me to undermine the president
This is does not surprise me. Former Ambassador Nikki Haley has a book to sell and she is teasing it with some blood in the water.
“Kelly and Tillerson confided in me that when they resisted the president, they weren’t being insubordinate, they were trying to save the country,” Haley wrote.
“It was their decisions, not the president’s, that were in the best interests of America, they said. The president didn’t know what he was doing,” Haley wrote of the views the two men held.
“The president didn’t know what he was doing.” A very familiar refrain. The government is full of bureaucrats who think they are saving the country from the one person the citizenry voted to execute a political agenda. Can you smell the hubris? Here’s another gem from her book:
On another occasion, Haley said Kelly stalled and put her off when she wanted to get in to see Trump. When she went around him, he complained. Kelly also made it clear that he thought Trump’s decision to make Haley a full member of the Cabinet, and have her attend National Security Council meetings, had been “terrible,” and that he would ensure the next U.N. ambassador did not carry that rank, she wrote.

Rand says it’s mistake to deny ‘QUIDPROQUO’
Rand is right and I’ve been saying so from the start: let’s not pretend all our foreign policy isn’t centered around quid pro quos. It is. We don’t shower money all over the planet out of the goodness of our heart. We threaten to take away money from countries who do not behave as we’d like. Trump threatened to stop aid to the triangle countries if they did not stop the migrant caravans heading to our border. There are always conditions to our aid.
It was a mistake to respond to left’s attempt to demonize the political tradition of manipulating foreign countries with our money by denying it. Yes, the president wanted Ukraine’s corruption investigated before we dumped $400m in their wallet. If that corruption included the Biden spawn, too bad.
Rand appeared on NBC’s political snuff show “Meet the Press” and said “If you’re not allowed to give aid to people who are corrupt, there’s always contingencies on aid,” he argued, contending, “We’ve gotten lost in this whole idea of quid pro quo.”
“I think it’s a mistake to say, ‘Oh, he withheld aid until he got what he wanted,’” he said, suggesting Trump’s efforts to “manipulate” Ukraine, though ugly, were par for the course in Washington.
“So I think it’s a big mistake for anybody to argue quid pro quo; he didn’t have quid pro quo. And I know that’s what the administration’s arguing. I wouldn’t make that argument. I would make the argument that every politician in Washington, other than me, virtually, is trying to manipulate Ukraine to their purposes,” Paul claimed, rattling off the names of Democratic lawmakers whom he accused of being just as guilty as Trump.
“They’re all doing it.”
Of course, Politico doesn’t name the “Democratic lawmakers.”
