At a speech to his own Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago on Tuesday, former President Barack Obama had some surprising criticisms for the rising far-Left, USA Today reports.
Speaking specifically to the youth of the Left, Obama said that those who believe that they’re “never compromised and…always politically woke and all that stuff” need to “get over that quickly.” He added that “People who do really good stuff have flaws. People who you are fighting may love their kids and share certain things with you.”
Obama further explained that such a “cancel culture” is accelerated into dangerous territory by colleges and social media, leading the youth of the Left to inaccurately believe that they are accomplishing something simply by insulting others and trying to isolate their opponents. “If all you’re doing is casting stones,” he explained, “you’re probably not going to get that far. That’s easy to do.”
Obama’s comments were widely praised on social media, from figures representing such outlets as Fox News, the New York Observer, and Tablet, to legendary British comedian John Cleese.
