At a Catholic Church in South Carolina, former Vice President and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden was reportedly turned down for Holy Communion during Mass, The Daily Caller reports.
The church was the Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Florence, South Carolina. The priest was Father Robert Morey, who later explained his decision in an interview with a local news affiliate, saying that “any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching.”
Biden has shifted further to the Left on the issue of abortion during his campaign, ostensibly to appease the Democratic Party’s far-left primary base. This includes a reversal of his decades-long support for the Hyde Amendment, a federal law dictating that taxpayer funds shall not pay for abortion services. He has reaffirmed his support for Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
The Biden campaign has not yet released a statement on the incident.
