What the Framers Knew That Hillary Doesn’t

Hillary Clinton was in the news this week for her odd feud with 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, a Democratic member of Congress from Hawaii. Clinton accused Gabbard of being a “Russian asset” who is being groomed by the Kremlin to defect from the Democratic Party and run as a third-party candidate. The two-time presidential candidate claims Gabbard would then fulfill the same spoiler role as Green Party candidate Jill Stein did in 2016, diverting votes from the Democratic nominee. This, Clinton explained, would help President Trump’s reelection.

There is no evidence to support Clinton’s completely fanciful charge, and Gabbard has said she will not run as a third-party candidate. (It’s a strange feud, too, in the sense that Clinton isn’t a candidate and Gabbard is polling at roughly 1 percent.) Indeed, Clinton’s hackneyed Russian fantasy was of a piece with the baseless claim that President Trump had colluded with Russia to secure his 2016 election victory.

Democrats have claimed over and over that Trump has some sort of mental illness, but a far stronger case could be made that it is Clinton who is clinically delusional. She remains unable to understand that she failed to gain an Electoral College majority because she was the less talented candidate and because of her obvious use of her governmental position corruptly to increase her and her family’s wealth.

Clinton’s misconduct included hiding her communications on an unsecure “home-brew” server and deleting 30,000 of her emails, some of which contained classified information. That alone should have gotten her indicted. Instead, she has blamed not only Vladimir Putin and Jill Stein, but also James Comey, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders (and his supporters, like Gabbard), the media, and misogyny.

Clinton’s talent for fabrication, a talent also shared by her husband (a man once branded by a fellow Democratic politician, Senator Bob Kerry, as an “unusually good liar”) is also manifested by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the other Democrats pushing for the impeachment of President Trump with the currently manufactured tale of misdeeds involving the Ukraine.

And this, while Democratic candidate Joe Biden professes to see nothing wrong with his son Hunter, who possesses no obvious qualifications other than his surname, netting millions of dollars from the Ukraine and China while his father was involved in official government business with those countries.

The Swamp Protects Itself

What could be going on here? Could the push to remove Donald Trump from office and the smear of Tulsi Gabbard be related? Both obviously rest on a tissue of lies, and both seem to be generated from the Washington power base sympathetic to Clinton, if not from Hillary Clinton herself.

From the beginning, the trouble for the Washington establishment with Donald Trump was that he might not be able to be controlled, and that he and his base were unsympathetic to the endless foreign wars conducted by both Democrats and Republicans for the last few decades. There obviously are great profits to be made in conducting these engagements and in contracting to supply goods and services to nations whose regimes had been changed.

To have that cash spigot turned off was obviously something the people the president quite properly refers to as belonging to “the swamp” wanted to avoid, and hence the endless war against Donald Trump. Hence, also, the need to destroy any Democrat, like Tulsi Gabbard, who has the credibility of being a veteran and who has herself condemned American involvement in places like Syria, where our actual national interest is low to non-existent.

Based on their knowledge of European intrigues and the history of Greece and Rome, the framers understood the debilitating nature of foreign entanglements, and the inability of a republic to survive if it succumbed to luxury and corruption.

Untold Stories

When an objective history of the Obama years is finally written, the story that will be told may well be of an administration which enabled many of the well-connected, like the Clintons, to live large off the spoils of governing. President Obama came into office offering hope and change to the American people but, instead, delivered more of the same and to the same insider miscreants.

When Donald Trump ran on a platform of making America great again, what he actually intended was to renew the industry and economy of the heartland, to diminish crony capitalism, and to reduce the opportunity to grow rich at the expense of the American people and our allies.

Those who seek to use government for their own selfish ends and those of their friends in the corporate leftist media, do an extraordinary job concealing the accomplishments of the Trump Administration. But compared to those of both Republicans and Democrats since the time of Ronald Reagan, Trump’s achievements are impressive indeed.

The tweeter-in-chief may be prone to a kind of hyperbole until now unknown in politics though common in his former field of real estate and reality TV but, in his own unique fashion, Donald Trump has actually begun the restoration of truth and virtue in our republic.
