The city of San Francisco has expanded a previously-enacted ban on city-funded travel to states that have passed pro-life laws, with the list now consisting of 22 different states, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
Among the 22 states are Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts. The ban was first enacted in August and initially focused on eight states, including Ohio. The bill was first introduced by Senator Vallie Brown, who was also responsible for the drastic expansion of the scope of the ban, claiming without evidence that such pro-life laws represented “an assault on women” and “an economic hit on women.”
The expansion is the latest in a series of highly controversial and partisan moves by the city government of San Francisco; the city had enacted a similar travel ban in 2016 to states that have passed religious freedom laws, which San Francisco officials have accused of being “anti-LGBT,” and included such states as North Carolina and Texas.
The legislation not only bans city-funded travel to these states, but also bans the city from working with companies that are headquartered in any of these states. The 2016 ban based on religious freedom laws similarly bans business contracts based on states of origin.
