The Quid Pro Quo that Wasn’t

The Ukraine quid-pro-quo narrative of the Democrats and their allies in the Leftist media continues to crumble. The president’s foes continue to flit about from narrative to narrative, trying to find something impeachable on the part of this president.

Their cause took a faceplant this week when Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, once again forcefully repudiated Leftist claims by asserting that there was no pressure from President Trump on the July 25 phone call. His statement contradicts the fervent and emotional fantasy put out by Democrats. But, President Zelensky’s most recent statement also reaffirms the statement he made when the leak first occurred. It is, moreover, consistent with the statements of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister and President Donald Trump.

Can there even be a quid-pro-quo if neither side thinks such a proposal is made? The answer is no. In the real world, the consistency of the witnesses contravening the Democrats’ ideation alone would be enough to pull the plug on the farcical efforts of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D.-Calif.) and company.

But the statement wasn’t all that President Zelensky provided to the world; he also said that the transcript of the conversation released by the White House is consistent with his recollection of the interaction. That should be game, set, and match for President Trump.

Unfortunately, we live in the notional world of those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. They will continue to hunt in the woods for the nugget that will provide some real impetus for impeachment.

What else might convince the Democrats that they are wrong? How about this? It has been reported that, without encouragement, inducement, or pressure from President Trump, the Ukrainians opened an investigation into the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and the Bidens. Oh, didn’t I mention that the investigation was initiated in February of 2019—five months before the telephone call between the two presidents?

That’s right: there was already an ongoing investigation before the July 25 phone call. But, I’ve seen this movie before. The Democrats and their media accomplices will press on because they simply do not believe that they can beat President Trump in an election. Thus, they are locked in on hoax after hoax and do not care about the facts.

It also appears that the “whistleblower (leaker)” knew about the existing investigation but failed to include that information in the complaint. Failure to include it is particularly odd because the leaker included 17 references to media accounts in the complaint.

This fact gives more credibility to the reports that the leaker wasn’t merely biased but was unfairly prejudiced against President Trump. This person is reported to have professional ties to one of President Trump’s Democrat opponents for the upcoming 2020 presidential election. We recently learned that professional tie was to former Vice President Joe Biden himself, developed through years of directly briefing Biden as a CIA officer.

So, this isn’t merely about the gigantic bias Schiff persistently displays through closed door hearings and selective leaks. This is about a willingness to ignore 1) the lack of credibility of the Democrats’ chief witness; 2) the investigation of Burisma and the Bidens; and 3) the numerous statements that there was no pressure or promise in the call according to the parties who actually were talking to each other.

No, we have sadly learned some time ago that the truth doesn’t impress the Democrats and the Leftists as much as the potential for impeaching their hated political rival: President Donald J. Trump.
