Trump Administration Expanding its Use of DNA Collection from Illegal Aliens

The Trump Administration, seeking to build up a comprehensive criminal database for as many illegal aliens as possible, will be expanding its DNA collection efforts at the border, the AP reports.

This new effort will be in addition to the pre-existing operation to collect DNA for the purpose of “detecting adults falsely posing as parents” in order to cross with children.

Although the number of illegal border crossings have gone down “following crackdowns, changes on asylum and agreements with Central American countries,” border officials say they are still worried “over the potential for criminals crossing while resources were stretched.”

The new database is to be “operated by the FBI,” according to the AP report. The announcement was criticized by the far-left American Civil Liberties Union, with spokeswoman Vera Eidelman claiming, without evidence, that the move was part of “this administration’s fixation on villainizing folks at the border.”
