The so-called “whistleblower” who first made the unsubstantiated claims about President Trump’s phone call with Ukraine was biased in favor of one of the Democratic candidates for president in 2020, Fox News reports.
According to “a senior Trump administration official” who spoke with the network, this revelation will be detailed in the Inspector General’s report, which confirms that the individual in question had a “political bias” in favor of “a rival candidate” against President Trump, without specifying which candidate.
This comes after the previous revelation that the whistleblower had no firsthand knowledge of the call itself, and simply made their accusations based on hearsay.
President Trump has announced via Twitter that he has authorized the release of the full, unredacted transcript of his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and he and several other officials have said that the transcript will fully vindicate the president of any alleged wrongdoing. President Trump’s conduct during the call was also defended by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko.
House Democrats have already made their decision to move forward with a “formal impeachment inquiry,” announced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday. These latest revelations about the whistleblower’s political motivations could have a direct impact on whether or not impeachment proceedings move forward in the House.
