Red Pills for the Outsider Class, Truth Serum for the Ruling Class

Let’s face it: Donald Trump is the red pill and truth serum all wrapped up into one convenient dose. For those who remain unaware of the red pill versus blue pill scene in the 1999 sci-fi classic, “The Matrix,” (re-released in theaters this month for its 20th anniversary) it really is about accepting reality over illusion.

Those who don’t want to confront reality take the blue pill. They want to accept the illusion that all is normal, even as the machines have taken control and are using humans as batteries to power the world. Those who take the red pill want to confront the brutal reality of what the world actually is and then act accordingly. They want to fight, even against incredible odds.

We don’t have to fight actual machines, but as political machines go, Donald Trump is that red pill.

Consider China for example. There was the general mindset in Washington, D.C. that the Communist Chinese were bad, but no one wanted to upset the apple cart in dealing with these bad actors over disadvantageous trade deals and intellectual theft. Many weren’t even at the point where they could admit the Chinese were bad actors. But now everyone, except Joe Biden, agrees with the reality.

While Trump has been a godsend in the sense that he has at least raised awareness of the unchecked onslaught of the bureaucratic state, the ruling class, and the anti-American Left, he is no Neo. He is but the first iteration of what comes next.

Trump shows up and almost overnight, the red pill effect: China is no longer viewed as a frenemy to be tolerated at all cost. Now we see that China, in fact, is seeking to overtake and displace the United States on the world stage. Through terrible trade deals, forced technology transfers, intellectual theft and a variety of other bad behaviors, China is not interested in settling for being an innocuous trade partner with the United States. Trade is not separated from its geopolitical strategy in the world. The world’s largest authoritarian police state essentially wants to turn the United States into a tributary state, using our greed against us.

The New Divide Isn’t Left vs. Right, It’s Ruling Class vs. Outsider

On the issue of the ruling class of Washington, D.C. and its inclination to sell out the American people’s interests every single day, Trump has made it clear that on almost every issue, including other trade deals and immigration, our immoral ruling class has zero interest in advancing the priorities of the people or the nation.

While some of us have been talking about the ruling class for some time, Trump has been able to so on a much broader scale and illuminate the degree to which its existence and essence is a fact of our political life. He’s shown that party affiliations are truly the wrong lens through which to view the world. It’s not Democrat versus Republican. It’s now Ruling Class versus the Outsiders.

Of course, and sadly, this now means most of the American people are outsiders in a government that is supposed to be composed of We the People and legitimized through our consent.

They Can’t Handle The Truth

But Trump is more than just a red pill. For the Left, he’s a truth serum of sorts.

Consider the last several years and the deep state actors who used to run our surveillance state and law enforcement. While those of us who have been in the beltway know that much of the bureaucratic state is populated with Democrats, leftists, or at best, nameless, faceless arrogant bureaucrats who think they know better than the American people, there was a masquerade taking place in which most Americans accepted the lie that they were mainly reasonable and nonpartisan professionals.

Now the Trump truth serum has removed all doubt about the people in high positions, entrusted with great power. They are, in fact, nothing but partisan political hacks who used their power as political weapons to target political opponents over policy differences. These were people more suited for third-world banana republics than for our supposedly constitutional republic.

It’s the visceral reaction to Trump that has brought it all to the surface: they seek a brave new world that would end our republic and now they’re willing to admit who they really are. It is owing to Trump that they finally admit it.

The Trump truth serum has also annihilated any vestige of the mainstream media being even remotely objective. For over two years the media has played the role of obedient propagandist for the Left and the deep state, trotting out every last conspiracy theory, intoning that “this is a turning point, the beginning of the end, as the walls are closing in on Donald Trump.” They take a flamethrower to any reputation they might have had left. Their agenda is exposed and visible to all with eyes to see.

Trump Drives Democrats Further Left

Consider also what Trump has done to the Democratic Party. If anyone thinks that somehow the Democratic Party is still center-left, I have oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you. While the socialist, far-left trends have been taking place for some time, Trump has gotten them to drop their center left pretense and now openly embrace their anti-American socialist views. He’s also shown that they are no longer the loyal opposition, but instead are primarily interested in embracing and defending anti-American views.

Even more than that, he’s revealed the Democrats to be a party interested in destroying all the norms of our constitutional republic. Of course, those of us who study history understand that there has long been a strain of that among Democrats, from the days of Woodrow Wilson and the early progressives who viewed with utter disdain the Founders’ vision for the republic. The Constitution has always been an obstacle to the pursuit of consolidated power (and deliberately so!). But now Democrats have dropped the pretense that they actually want to stay within those ratified and constitutional norms.

They want to do away with the Electoral College, pack the Supreme Court, and have even attempted to keep the sitting president off state ballots in 2020 just to own the big Bad Orange Man. They want and advocate socialized healthcare. They advocate restructuring our entire free market economy via the coercive socialism of the Green New Deal. They openly advocate the end of national sovereignty and American citizenship. Down to a person they admit they want to give healthcare to those who have illegally entered this country.

No Going Back Now

For those paying attention, the ultimate result of Democrats’ policies would be the end of meaningful American citizenship. It would mean the end of us as a self-governing people. We cannot be a self-governing people without national sovereignty. And we cannot have national sovereignty without enforced borders.

The Left has wanted to do these things for quite some time but they have gotten away with presenting these radical views under the cover of compassion and reasonable variations of American principles. But now the mask is off.

It’s the visceral reaction to Trump that has brought it all to the surface: they seek a brave new world that would end our republic and now they’re willing to admit who they really are. It is owing to Trump that they finally admit it.

A word of caution, however. While Trump has been a godsend in the sense that he has at least raised awareness of the unchecked onslaught of the bureaucratic state, the ruling class, and the anti-American Left, he is no Neo. He is but the first iteration of what comes next.

Many of those who support the old ways of the swamp think that they will simply outlast the next six years of Trump and things will go back to the status quo ante. But this America First, populist, nationalist movement isn’t going and cannot go away. The blue pills are gone and these people who think they are our betters are not going to outlast us. Too many people have taken the red pill and we see reality now.
