President Trump ordered his administration to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance last August, due to his “erratic behavior,” but that directive was apparently never carried out.
According to reports this week, the White House simply didn’t follow through with the “complicated bureaucratic process of revocation.”
“Now the deep state is actually protecting their own and not listening to the president’s orders,” Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said in an interview on CNN on Tuesday. “I was sitting in the White House when President Trump said I want his security clearance taken, and I saw the order given. I saw the chief of staff was there, not the current chief of staff [Mick Mulvaney], the previous chief of staff [John Kelly].”
“If they are working against … the president that really does disrupt our country, does disrupt a representative democracy where the president makes a decision. If someone is countermanding that, I think we need to get to the bottom of that,” Paul said.
On Fox news Thursday evening, Tucker Carlson said his office called the executive branch in an attempt to get to the bottom of it.
“We were told that John Brennan no longer has access to classified information,” Carlson said. “A source explained to us, that means the administration sent a letter to intelligence agencies explaining that Brennan no longer has a quote, ‘need to know.'”
Carlson noted that that may sound “reassuring” but in reality “like so much that happens in government, it’s a mirage. It means nothing.”
“In fact bureaucrats can simply ignore that letter if they choose–they have before. So the truth is, the president of the United States was undermined by his own staff. He gave them a direct, unequivocal order. In their feline, passive-aggressive way, they refused to carry it out,” he declared.
Carlson wondered how often such subordination happens under Trump, noting “every time it does, our democracy erodes.”
At the beginning of the segment, Carlson pointed out that the “Resistance” to President Trump had done nothing to make our country better.
“Since the moment the last ballot was cast in 2016, they have worked to nullify the presidential election,” Carlson said. “They’ve imposed censorship on much of the country, and more than anything, they’ve sided with the permanent bureaucracy over voters. People like John Brennan have openly urged federal employees to ignore and undermine the elected president. That is a brazen attack on democracy,” he lamented.
