Grassley to Dems and Media: You Folks Are Just Mad Because You Were ‘Sold a Bunch of Snake Oil and Now the Jig is Up’

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) received accolades on Wednesday for his deft handling of a reporter’s “gotcha” question regarding Attorney General William Barr’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier in the day.

Democrats are accusing the attorney general of lying about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s concerns with Barr’s 4-page summary of principal conclusions of the Mueller report. [Fact check: No, he didn’t lie. But as usual, Democrats are distorting the truth to make a political enemy look bad].

“The last time he was here, they said, ‘has Bob Mueller expressed any concerns to you’ and he said, ‘no, I don’t know if there are any concerns,’ and he had a letter–he had a phone call,” the reporter said breathlessly. “The letter clearly says their concerns. So–”

Grassley, who seemed bored by the question, said, “They had that conversation and you heard him say–and I have to assume that Mueller said it to him–that he was only concerned about how the media played it.,” he answered. “So I think here’s where we are,” Grassley continued, gathering his thoughts.

“The Democrats and you folks in the media are not concerned about the report. I think you’re concerned about the results weren’t what you expected. And I think you’re finding out that everybody was sold a bunch of snake oil–and now the jig’s up,” he said matter-of-factly.

And at that, Grassley wearily turned around and sauntered off with his aides.
