Standing Up to Leftist Racism

In the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s elections, the increasingly relentless accusations of racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, and xenophobia reached a fever pitch. But this is nothing new. The mainstream media and the Left—but I repeat myself—have used these terms as cudgels to club their opposition into submission for years. And, until recently, this strategy has been effective.

After all, no one wants to be called racist, sexist, anti-Semitic, or xenophobic. When nice people hear they are being offensive, their initial reaction is to apologize, take a step back, and evaluate what they said or did. Because nice people want to believe that other people are acting in good faith. And if someone, in good faith, says you are being offensive, it is considerate to give that person the benefit of the doubt, figure out if you did something wrong, and make it right.

Many on the Left have used accusations of racism, sexism, and the other “isms” to put conservatives on their back feet. It’s a way to trip them and slow down their momentum. But this tactic only works when conservatives let themselves stumble. Recently, the Right has started learning that their good faith apologies and attempts at dialog are not productive. They have learned that those who believe that they are bigoted will continue believing that, even after the scripted apology. They have learned that those who understand what they are saying and do not think it’s racist will cringe when they grovel. People are tired of the dance where only the right ever acts in good faith.

The overwrought accusations of the Left have become stale and ineffective, especially given the recent rejuvenations in some Republicans of spinal cord tissue. And they didn’t even need stem cells. Instead of whimpering because some smug host on MSNBC called them racist, they unapologetically push their views. They have become confident and no longer need a talk-show host to tell them what they already know—that they are not racist.

In fact, they are starting to realize that the Left is the real home of racists, sexists, and anti-Semites. Leftists despise black people who dare question Democratic Party orthodoxy that has taken their votes for granted without ever delivering on their promises. They hate women who don’t fit their mold of what an enlightened woman should look like and who have decided to think for themselves instead of buying into feminist groupthink. They openly campaign against the state of Israel and are intolerant of many tenants of orthodox Judaism.

In short, they only like minorities who follow them and fall in line with all of their policy prescriptions. They don’t care about the individual issues that uniquely affect each group, let alone each person. They only care about uniting minority groups by stoking resentment and fear.

Consider the Left’s current view on immigration and their overtures to the Latino community. They indiscriminately lump Latinos whose families sacrificed time and money to immigrate legally with Latinos who skipped the line and broke the law. These two groups have very divergent views on immigration—but in the mind of the Left, all Latinos think alike.

The Left is obsessed with identity politics and shamelessly divides the country over the  immutable characteristics of different groups of people—this is the very definition of racism. Think about how many times the Left has made reckless generalizations about “white people.”

But more Americans  increasingly are aware of the open mental warfare of the Left. They have started growing spines and standing up to the bullying tactics of the real identitarians. And the country has started noticing.

Most people hate bullies. But they also are frustrated with weak leaders who do not stand up for what they believe. Ultimately, the bullied person has to stand up to their bully. Conservatives are finally learning this lesson and are relearning the meaning of leadership.
