The Last Supper Redux

Southern California residents are familiar with the Pageant of the Masters that takes place each summer in Laguna Beach. The pageant is a performance where “art comes to life.” Real live people pose as famous works of art, looking exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces—same setting, same costumes, and so on.

Performances ran each night in July and August. But it was the last night’s performance that created quite a stir. For that one night only, the featured exhibit was da Vinci’s immortal “Last Supper” mural painting.

This exhibit was a bit unusual because it didn’t involve the local citizenry. Typically, Laguna residents are the ones who get involved and pose for the various paintings.

But for the “Last Supper,” it was different. Outsiders were brought in to depict the Twelve Apostles. And all these apostles were portrayed by notorious NeverTrumpers.

Donald Trump, of course, posed as Jesus.

This all makes sense because the Gospel recounts how, during the meal, Jesus predicted that one of the apostles would betray him. And when it comes to the NeverTrumpers, all of them―not just one―have betrayed Donald Trump over and over again. (Some of them a bit more than others—Et tu, William?)

Jesus goes on to say, “Woe to the man who betrays the Son of man. It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

So who knows, woe may yet befall—heaven forbid!—all of these individuals.

For security considerations, the presentation was videotaped earlier in the day and shown at the evening’s performance.

Below is a snapshot of Donald Trump as Jesus with the 12 unfaithful NeverTrump apostles.
