The myriad of foreign policy “experts” who claim continuously (and against all evidence) that President Trump is a disaster for U.S. foreign policy are looking pretty foolish right now. Obviously, the results of the president’s historic meeting with Kim Jong Un remain to be seen, but I don’t think any reasonable person can deny that what’s happening currently has the potential for an awful lot of good.
For Trump’s critics, a summit which they would have applauded as a Kissingerian stroke of genius were it pretty much any other president is condemned because Trump. Cue the moralists on the Left and NeverTrump Right, who are so blinded by their hatred of the president that anything that even hints that Trump isn’t the tyrannical monster they claim he is must be stamped out of existence:
North Korea is a Communist slave state. The worst regime on earth. Conservatives who—rightly—skewered Obama for his capitulations to Iran and Cuba shouldn’t be clapping today.

Except for one huge difference– we haven't relieved sanctions, haven't taken the threat of force off the table, and are threatening more sanctions. Conservatives shouldn't be opposed to negotiations. We're opposed to negotiations at the expense of security.

It’s a sad commentary that even with the historic news today, a small band of keyboard warriors can only see Trump’s actions through McMullin-tinted glasses.
